Jonathan Fishbein, OD
OA 5536, OM 270M00122600
I grew up in Toronto, Canada, and graduated from York Mills High School in 1986.
I spent a year at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem before graduating with a B.Sc. in Psychology from the University of Toronto in 1991. I received my Doctor of Optometry degree in 1997 and completed a residency in Low Vision Rehabilitation at the Feinbloom Center in Philadelphia in 1998.
In my free time (when I’m not transporting my teenage daughter to dance or her friends’ houses or helping my son prepare for his second year of college), I run! I recently retired from a running streak that lasted 1,195 days straight of running at least a mile.
I have also run multiple marathons since 2012 as fundraisers for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and will do so again this fall at the 51st running of the NYC marathon.
As a Canadian, I love hockey. I root for my hometown Toronto Maple Leafs and play on a local adult hockey team. l also like to watch gritty dramas like Better Call Saul, Animal Kingdom, Ozark, and The Walking Dead. I’ll sheepishly admit that I’ve also been known to relax by watching The Bachelor, Married at First Sight, and 90 Day Fiancé.
Bethany and I are thrilled to celebrate the 21st anniversary this summer of “our baby”, Somerset Eye Care. We treasure the family of patients, (both new and longstanding 20+ years) who continue to choose us for their eye care.
I still love coming to work each day, as I enjoy the challenge of optometry and the variety of patients that we see in our family of patients.
I may be prescribing a child’s first pair of glasses or contact lenses during one exam, treating an older patient for glaucoma during the next exam, and then spending time finding optical solutions to help a visually impaired patient maintain her independence.
My job is constantly changing and that keeps it fun.

Prapti Chandrani, OD
OA 6492, OM 27OM00115300
I grew up in North Brunswick, New Jersey. I graduated from SUNY College of Optometry after being accepted into a 7-year accelerated program with the New Jersey Institute of Technology and graduating with a degree in Biology.
The part of Optometry I enjoy most is the detective work involved in diagnosing, treating, and managing patients’ eye care needs. I particularly enjoy fitting specialty scleral contact lenses for patients who require a unique solution to obtain clear vision that would not be possible otherwise.
I am invested in providing personalized care for each individual patient to help keep their vision clear and their eyes healthy to support their thriving lifestyle!
My favorite thing to do outside of work is spending time with my adorable son. I enjoy traveling and experiencing different cultures. I am also a dancer and have trained in classical (Bharat Natyam) and semi-classical Indian dance. I enjoy action movies, especially James Bond movies (my favorite “Bond” is Pierce Brosnan, of course)!
I look forward to providing outstanding vision care to our family of patients.

Tobin Ansel, OD, FAAO
OA 6731, OM 27OM00673100
I graduated from the University of Pittsburgh (LET’S GO PITT) with a degree in both neuroscience and economics. I then attended the SUNY College of Optometry.
My interest in eye care developed when I was in high school and was fit with overnight ortho-k contact lenses which stopped the progression of my nearsightedness and allowed me to see clearly without the need for glasses or contacts all day.
After I suffered an eye injury in college and saw first-hand the difference that a skilled and caring doctor made in my comfort and well-being, I then decided to pursue a career in optometry.
I have a great interest in myopia management and have done significant research in this field. I am passionate about helping my patients keep their eyes healthy and happy for life.
I am happy to see patients of all ages: from toddlers to adults to the young at heart.
Outside of work, I love listening to music and working on cars.

Sukhpreet Kahlon, OD
OA 7009, OM 27OM00167800
I was born in New York and raised in central New Jersey. I graduated from Rutgers University – New Brunswick with a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences and a minor in psychology.
I became interested in optometry when I met a visually impaired student on campus. I then joined the pre-optometry club during undergrad, where I was able to participate in providing vision screenings in my community.
While applying to optometry school, I also began working as an optometric technician, which allowed me to gain more exposure to the field. I received my doctorate degree from SUNY College of Optometry.
My clinical training includes experience in treating and managing ocular disease, surgical co-management, specialty contact lenses, myopia management, and low vision.

Bethany Fishbein, OD
Bethany Fishbein, OD founded Somerset Eye Care, along with her husband Jonathan Fishbein, OD. They had both worked in other practices and envisioned a place where they could treat patients the way they’d want someone to treat them and the people they loved.
They consider the office to be their first “baby” and have watched with pride as the Somerset Eye Care family grew with each new patient and staff member who joined.
In 2021, Bethany and Jonathan partnered with Dr. Prapti Chandrani and Dr. Tobin Ansel to infuse the practice with new energy and ideas.
Bethany now holds the role of CEO of The Power Practice, a practice management company devoted to helping practice owners reach their dreams. Although she’s no longer seeing patients in the exam room, she enjoys the challenges and rewards of helping so many other practices.
